Self-Defence vs Martial Arts difference?
In Martial Arts people often practise static techniques, work with helpful partners or practice it as a sport. Self-Defence is chaotic and violence based, where you have to learn to make the right choices under pressure and diagnose the real problems of the situation you are in. Solutions based on real world practise are key to this.
-
Why do you teach Martial Arts?
The practise of Martial Arts generates a positive feedback loop. By practising, you create confidence and a positive attitude which makes you less of a target from a Self-Defence point of view. Combine this with awareness and recognition, add violence management into the mix, and you will have covered 95% of the situations.
-
What Outcome can I expect?
The best outcome we are after in every Self-Defence situation is; that the person walks away unharmed. This includes avoiding a fight altogether, staying clear of high risk situations, de-escalation and communication. In case of a high risk situations the preferred method is a non-violent approach using submission technique over punching and kicking.
-
Bullied vs Bully?
Can Self-Defence help your child with bullying and will your child become a bully?
Our teaching, is to always make the least violent choice. Fighting Skills and techniques are preferably never used outside the gym.
Bullying is a choice based on perceived weakness of the target and perceived positive outcome for the bully. By displaying confidence and awareness you can make yourself less of a target. Add some verbal resistance to this and the perceived positive outcome for the bully diminishes.
