Unlike many martial arts programs that primarily focus on sport or tradition, CMAG prioritizes real-world self-defence. Our training prepares participants to handle bullying, confrontation, and threats of physical harm with essential proactive and reactive skills. The techniques taught are the same strategies used in my role as a consultant and self-defence instructor across multiple schools in Victoria, as well as previously in Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Self-Defence is more than just the physical aspect that makes up approximately 5% of this dynamic. The other 95% is about managing aggression, bullying and raising awareness of you or your child's safety, that is not limited or adjunct to a martial art style. Self-Defence has its own skills and mindset that requires a dedicated stand alone program.
Self-Defence
MMA at CMAG draws predominantly on the styles of boxing, old school Taekwondo and wrestling, in conjunction with real world violence management. With most people not able to or not willing to pursue competitive MMA the focus is on using these skill sets and others for advanced self protection.
Mixed Martial Arts
BJJ focuses on using leverage, positioning, and submissions to neutralize threats, even against larger opponents. We often focus on using BJJ to defend from strikes, whilst understanding that Self Defence is its own style with a large range of variables. Our BJJ class empowers individuals with confidence and practical skills that apply to real-life situations.
Brazilian Jui-Jitsu
Utilizing all 8 weapons, plus a heavy focus on the clinch, Kickboxing is a well rounded effective and efficient skill base that will meet your fitness, capability, and self defence requirements from the novice to the advanced member.
Kickboxing
Considered by many as the most efficient and relevant “martial art” for self defence. In reality due to unknown elements and the chaos of violence generally render kicking of any sort a risk not worth the gain. Grappling on the ground poses a huge risk of the unknown 3rd or 4th person attacking you. Fights and self defence predominantly occurs at boxing range.
Boxing
You will practice all the familiar Karate blocks, kicks and strikes, along with new contemporary sparring techniques. Students progress by practicing basic to advanced striking and defensive skills while developing the attributes of resilience, respect and discipline to meet the CMAG objective of life skill development.
